Highlights on board Kerala Houseboat
India
What are Kerala houseboats?
Formerly used for trade, these vessels have been transformed into luxury cruise ships.
Combining authenticity with modern comfort, allowing you to explore canals and lakes in an exclusive way.
It is a unique experience that will allow you to get to know incredible landscapes, villages and the kindness of its people in a different way.
When is the best time to do this experience?
The best season to visit Kerala is from December to March is the cooler , dry and pleasant climate, temperatures between 24 °C and 32 °C.
From June to September is monsoon season, the weather is warm and pleasant.
We visited Kerala in August, despite being the rainy season we had pleasant weather with occasional showers and few tourists, as it was low season.
Why did we choose Cruiseland?
We chose Cruiseland Houseboats because of the good recommendations that this company had in terms of crew, boats and gastronomy and the truth is that we were not wrong, from the first moment they transmitted us reliability, professionalism, tranquility and comfort.
Personally we were treated amazing, they also have a great variety of boats and very well designed itineraries, we chose the One Bedroom Deluxe option, just us with the crew, a highly recommended experience.
One night aboard Cruiseland Kerala Houseboat
Can you imagine one day traveling back in time to live in the houseboats of Kerala?
Rust-colored sunrises, freshly made spicy curry dinners and sunsets that tinge the backwaters with gold. Well, that's exactly what we experienced aboard a houseboat in Alappuzha, in the heart of Kerala.
We wanted something authentic. No overcrowded boats or rushed tours.
This has been an experience that stands out for its tranquility, human quality and a leisurely pace that invites you to simply let yourself go.
It was probablythe most serene experience we have ever had: we sailed unhurriedly, very intimate, one captain, the cook and the two of us, we set our own times under the attentive hospitality of the crew, always with a smile and a delicious dish on the table.
They explained to us that in Kerala centuries ago they lived in houseboats due to the need to move through the complex canals of the region. These boats, known as Kettuvallams, were mainly used to transport products such as rice and spices.
This is a unique experience, which allows you to experience first hand what life was like in Kerala centuries ago, combining that tradition with modern day comfort, which we recommend to anyone visiting India.

An incredible experience not to be missed
From the moment we boarded the houseboat in Kerala, I knew we were about to experience something completely different. We were picked up in the morning and, as we sailed through the canals surrounded by rice paddies and palm trees, we were served a traditional meal that left us speechless. The calmness of the place, the sound of the water and the freshness of the ingredientsimmersedusin an authentic local experience. We arrived at a village, where we toured the surroundings, seeing animals, exotic birds and even snakes.
What struck me most, however, was the sunset over the rice fields. The sky was dyed such an intense pink that it seemed unreal. Afterwards, we returned to the ship for a spectacular dinner, which closed the day perfectly. The next day, we woke up early to continue our cruise. We relaxed in the ship's chill-out area, observing the local fishermen's life as we sailed, enjoying the tranquility of the place. Without a doubt, the Cruiseland Houseboat experience was a trip we will never forget.
