Hotel Casa Peregrino Holbox
Holbox, Mexico
Best season to go to Holbox?
We went in May, which is not during the dry season , which occurs between December and April, and it was still wonderful: long days and clear skies.
Between May and November, the atmosphere becomes more tropical, with the spectacular whale shark season in July and August.
In reality: Holbox is always enjoyable, only the pace changes.
Best areas to stay in Holbox?
Basically you have two options:
- In the center of Holbox : just like we did, you'll have everything right at your fingertips: restaurants, cafes, excursions, and the beach just steps away. It's perfect for making the most of the island.
- Resorts in natural areas: On the other hand, there are hotels further away, in areas close to the mangroves and natural surroundings, ideal if you are looking for maximum tranquility, relaxation, and unspoiled landscapes .
We landed with the desire to stop time, and we succeeded. We walked on white sand , the air smelling of the sea. Everything invites us to slow down, to look more slowly, to speak more calmly. And in this new rhythm of Holbox , we discovered Casa Peregrino .
The essence of the Hotel Casa Peregrino
Casa Peregrino opened its doors in December 2020 , at a time when the world was asking for a break. And perhaps that's why it makes so much sense. It's a boutique hotel with the luxuries needed for a pleasant stay. It's a space designed with taste, with calm, with the kind of elegance that doesn't need to attract attention to be noticed.
It's in the center of town , which means you're close to everything : the beach is 100 meters away, the best restaurants are just a stone's throw away, and yet, with polished cement walls, it feels like a space for relaxation, with a very accomplished design.

Casa Peregrino Holbox Facilities
What sets Casa Peregrino apart isn't just its design. It's the entire experience: from the moment you arrive, you know you're in a lovingly curated place. Its philosophy combines modern aesthetics with the warmth of a friendly atmosphere, reflected in every corner.
From the Jacuzzi overlooking the sea to the Nespresso machine in every room , everything here is designed to make you feel good. These aren't large, impersonal facilities, but rather cozy, functional, and lovingly maintained spaces. This is a home for travelers or digital nomads who value good taste and easy access to everything Holbox has to offer.
Sleeping well is living better: this is what the rooms are like
We stayed in the suite with a kitchen and balcony , and honestly, we didn't want for anything. It was spacious, bright, and had a bed so comfortable it was hard to get up (although the coffee downstairs helped). We had a small kitchenette , a spacious, modern shower, and a perfect balcony for watching the island awaken.
The cleanliness was impeccable throughout the stay. And the details, which sometimes seem small, make all the difference here: fluffy pillows, a Nespresso machine, warm lighting, a bathrobe, and good internet .
This star room is designed for long stays. The sofa converts into a bed if you're traveling with a group or family. Comfort is present in every design choice. It's not ostentatious luxury: it's the luxury of functionality, practicality, and well-made.
The jewel of the hotel is on the roof: Jacuzzi in Holbox
The rooftop terrace of Casa Peregrino is one of those places that brings you back to the world. Going up there in the afternoon with a cold beer in hand and a clear mind is a luxury. The outdoor jacuzzi , the sun setting over the sea, the orange and pink hues of the sky reflected in the water... you don't need anything else.
The terrace is probably the most special corner of the hotel.
Waking up to the smell of coffee (the good kind)
One of the biggest surprises was breakfast . Just below the hotel is Clandestino , probably the most beloved café among locals and travelers alike. We'd wander down there every morning, choosing between toast, eggs, or tropical bowls. It's better to watch life go by with a cup of coffee in hand, let's be honest ;).
The special breakfast for guests is one of those small gestures that makes you feel pampered. The atmosphere is warm, the music soft, and the service is top-notch. Everything you need to start the day off right.
And if you're a coffee lover, Clandestino serves the best specialty coffee in Holbox: Perfect for starting the day with good vibes, and also offers, why not, a delicious croissant!

Who is Casa Peregrino for?
We went as a group of friends and thought it was perfect. But we also saw solo travelers, laptops in hand, working from the terrace or in the cafe. There's good Wi-Fi, good rest, and a good vibe . It's a comfortable, warm, and unpretentious space. In my opinion, it's the best coworking space in Holbox. There aren't any coworking spaces on the island, but this small boutique hotel has everything you need for working from Holbox.
It's not a hotel for crowds , and that's exactly what we loved. It offers privacy without being cold , closeness without being intrusive . And that's hard to find.
Casa Peregrino's versatility is evident. They've hosted everyone from backpackers to digital nomads , small families to romantic getaways. The most common profile is conscious travelers , who value aesthetics, comfort, and authentic experiences.
Every day started similarly, but none were the same. Waking up without an alarm clock, a leisurely breakfast, and a walk to the beach. Then came the adventure: getting lost in the mangroves of Punta Mosquitos , or lying down to watch the birds glide by at Punta Cocos .
At midday, we recommend a ceviche—or a taco—and a cold beer (you can make it a michelada with clamato, which we love!) at one of the beach bars with your feet in the sand. And in the afternoon, back at the hotel, there was that hot shower that tasted like heaven and a rooftop session that ended with the sun slowly setting. The night could have featured live music, a romantic dinner, or a moonless hike where we went to see the bioluminescence on our own. The truth is that even though we didn't see much because we didn't venture too far, it was unforgettable.
The island offers many options, but it also invites you to do nothing. And that's part of its magic. From Casa Peregrino, you can experience both extremes, but what I do dream of one day is coming to work at this hotel, which, even if I don't intend to, is the best coworking space in Holbox.
Casa Peregrino helped us arrange transportation with a trusted local agency . Getting there and back was very easy (and cheap). They also have contacts with guides who organize bio-invertebrate excursions, boat trips, artisanal fishing, and whale shark swimming tours (if you go during the season).
Our Experience at Hotel Casa Peregrino
Holbox, Mexico
Our experience: what we took away from Casa Peregrino
We've stayed in many beautiful places, but Casa Peregrino has something extra. That "something" you can't buy or design: you feel it . From the welcome to the last coffee at Clandestino, everything flowed . Everything was easy, friendly, and beautiful .
The room was comfortable, the service was friendly, and the location was perfect. But what we really took away was the feeling of having found a place we'd want to return to even before we left. And that, when you travel, is the hardest thing to find.
And we're not the only ones saying this. Other guests echo it too. "Like something out of a magazine," "the best place I've stayed in Holbox," "the service is unbeatable." These are real comments that confirm what we feel. Casa Peregrino isn't just a hotel . It's an experience.
The team knows Holbox inside out, and they're happy to share it with you. Thanks to Marike and Vale for taking such good care of us.
