Kuramathi Maldives Hotel
Kuramathi Island, located in the Rasdhoo Atoll, Maldives
How to get to Kuramathi Maldives
The cheapest option is the speedboat. From Male airport, Kuramathi’s boat staff are waiting for you on arrival, they collect your luggage and guide you to the speedboat, which takes around 90 minutes. The other option is the seaplane from Male airport, which gets you to Kuramathi in around 25 minutes and adds a spectacular aerial view of the atolls. The speedboat is more affordable; the seaplane saves time and adds an experience.
When to visit
The best season to visit Kuramathi is from November to April. Temperatures sit between 28°C and 32°C and the sea is clear and calm, which is ideal for water activities. We went in September, in the middle of the monsoon season (May to October), and we got lucky: the weather was good and we got a small discount on the room. The monsoon is a real factor, but it does not have to ruin the trip if you plan with a bit of flexibility.
The essence of the resort
Kuramathi Resort is a luxury resort located in the Rasdhoo Atoll, in the Maldives. Surrounded by white sand beaches and clear water, the island has very strong marine life right at the doorstep: tropical fish, manta rays and the occasional reef shark. A solid base if what you want from the Maldives is an unhurried stay with quality diving and snorkeling within reach. If you’re putting your trip together, we tell you what to see in our complete Maldives guide. And if you’d rather dive for several days without heading back to land, you can also live it on a Maldives liveaboard.

Top 4 types of rooms
Deluxe Water Villa
Right by the turquoise water of Kuramathi Island, this room comes with a king-size bed, a bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, a kitchenette and a small wine cellar. The terrace offers a sunbathing area with lounge chairs, a shower and stairs leading straight into the sea. The combination of indoor comfort and direct access to the lagoon is what makes this category of room work.
Pool Villa
This villa sits right on the edge of the beach. As you enter the room there is a private patio leading to the bedroom. Inside, the king-size bed sits in front of a dressing room and a separate bathtub. Unlike the Deluxe Water Villa, the bedroom in this category opens onto a private 18 m² infinity pool, which is one of the strong arguments in favour of this room type if privacy is the priority.
Water Villa with Pool
Located next to the Deluxe Water Villa, in the turquoise waters of Kuramathi Island, unlike the Deluxe Water Villa this suite features an 18m2 infinity pool as well as more space to make your experience more special and luxurious.
Honeymoon Pool Villa
Spacious luxury villa designed for couples. This accommodation is designed with all the comforts for a unique experience, featuring a king-size bed, dressing room, separate living room, outdoor bathtub facing an infinity pool, and a chill-out relaxation area.
Our room
During our visit we stayed at the Deluxe Water Villa. The room was excellent. The bed is unusually comfortable, and falling asleep while looking at the turquoise water of the Maldives gives you a level of calm that is hard to describe without sounding cliché. The bathroom has every luxury detail. The bathtub sits looking out at the sea, the shower is generous and the water pressure is solid. The villa also has a small terrace with a private ladder into the lagoon, which we used several times a day to swim and snorkel directly from the room.
The villa also has a private veranda with sun loungers and a small dining table for an evening drink. Inside, the air conditioning works well, the wifi was reliable, and the room is laid out in a way that gives you space to move around without feeling like a hotel cabin. For three days, it was the right balance of comfort and proximity to the water.
Resort Facilities
Experience staying in luxury villas over crystal-clear waters savor the gastronomy more exquisite, enjoy incredible aquatic activities in paradise for diving lovers and be amazed by unforgettable sunsets that will leave you breathless
Kuramathi Diving
The hotel has its own dive centre, the Kuramathi Dive Club, that works for both beginners and experienced divers. We have been diving for many years and we rarely come across a dive operation this well organised. The team was excellent, the gear was new, and the instructors gave you genuine briefings on marine life rather than the usual safety speech. The dive sites around Kuramathi are very accessible from the centre and include some of the best spots of the Rasdhoo Atoll. And if you’d prefer a more budget-friendly base that doesn’t depend on staying at a resort, take a look at the best dive sites in Maafushi.
Spa
The spa is a strong reason to consider Kuramathi over other resorts. It features 13 treatment rooms (including one for couples) and a private herbal bath, with wellness areas that include a sauna, rain showers and a jacuzzi. The whole space is tucked into lush vegetation with views of the sea, which adds to the atmosphere. We used it after a long day of diving and it worked exactly as it should.
Water Sports Center
Get ready for some adrenaline on Kuramathi’s turquoise lagoon with water sports for every level. From catamaran trips to wakeboarding sessions, the lineup is broad: windsurfing, kayaking and water skiing are all on offer, along with introductory lessons for sports you might want to try for the first time. The conditions of the lagoon are well suited to learning, which is a useful detail if you arrive without much experience.
Bageecha Kids Club
Unlike other luxury hotels in the Maldives, Kuramathi caters to couples, friends and families equally well. It does not only focus on the experience for adults: it also provides free services for children aged 3 to 12, with a nursery for children under 3 and a 24-hour babysitting service for parents who want an evening out. This is one of the reasons Kuramathi works for a wider range of visitors than the typical Maldives resort. That said, if you travel as a couple and want something more intimate, you’ll also love the Kandolhu resort.
Resort Food & Beverage
Kuramathi Maldives is not only a paradise of turquoise waters, but also It is an exceptional culinary destination. It has three types of gastronomic experiences to adapt to your needs at all times
Buffet Restaurants
The resort has 3 buffet restaurants spread across the island and assigned by villa category: Haruge, Malaafaiy and Farivalhu. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner with a wide international selection. We had breakfast every day at Haruge, the largest of the three, and the variety covered everything from local Maldivian dishes to European classics. The food was consistently good across the three meals and the staff went out of their way to remember what we liked. A reliable backbone for a stay this length.
A la carte restaurants
Kuramathi Maldives has up to 10 à la carte restaurant options, each one with its own focus, from fine French cuisine to Indian dishes. Highlights:
Island Coffee Shop: specialty coffee shop with coffee, snacks and pastries. Open all day, our go-to between activities.
Reef: seafront restaurant focused on grilled seafood and fish caught locally. Our favourite for an evening meal facing the sea.
Palm: Mediterranean cuisine, with a strong wine list and a more formal atmosphere. Worth booking a couple of nights in advance.
Inguru: South Asian cuisine, particularly strong in Sri Lankan and Indian dishes. The curry selection is genuinely good.
Tandoor Mahal: classic Indian restaurant with tandoor specialities. Good service, generous portions.
Siam Garden: Thai cuisine cooked by Thai chefs, which is rarer than it should be in this region.
Teppanyaki: Japanese cuisine prepared on the grill in front of you. Best with a small group.
Bistro: casual European bistro with a good wine selection.
Coast: another seafront restaurant focused on Asian fusion.
Across these 10 options, you can effectively eat a different cuisine each night without leaving the resort. Quality is high across the board, and the team behind each kitchen is clearly experienced. The à la carte selection is one of the strongest arguments for Kuramathi versus other resorts in the Maldives.
Types of Travel Plans
Kuramathi Maldives adapts to your travel needs, honeymoon, getaway with your partner, family trip, and why not even solo! For this, we It offers three food and beverage plan options along with activity options..
Full Board: includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at the main buffets (Haruge, Malaafaiy or Farivalhu). Alcoholic drinks and soft drinks are not included outside of mealtimes. It is the most basic and flexible option, ideal if you prefer to pay separately for drinks or for à la carte experiences.
Basic All Inclusive (Standard All Inclusive): includes all meals at the buffets, selected drinks (water, soft drinks, beers, wines and some alcoholic beverages) in bars and restaurants, snacks and appetizers in selected bars throughout the day, and activities such as snorkeling and kayaking. A solid middle option if you want to skip the calculation on drinks but do not need the full premium upgrades.
Our Experience at Kuramthi Maldives Hotel
Maldives
An incredible paradise of turquoise waters
Our experience at Kuramathi Maldives was very positive. From the moment we arrived at the airport, the hotel staff were waiting for us, ready to take charge of the transfer and the briefing. On arrival at the resort itself, we received a welcome drink and Malsha sat down with us to walk through the itinerary for the next three days, the activities included, and the restaurants we could try.
The Deluxe Water Villa was an excellent choice. The privacy of the room, the direct access to the lagoon and the views of the turquoise water made it our favourite spot on the island. Mornings started with breakfast at Haruge looking at the sea, and continued with a dive or a snorkel directly from the villa.
The dive centre at Kuramathi was a clear highlight. The team is professional, the equipment is in excellent condition and the dive sites around the Rasdhoo Atoll deliver consistently. We had close encounters with manta rays, reef sharks and very large schools of tropical fish. For divers, this is one of the strong reasons to choose Kuramathi over other resorts.
The food side of the stay also exceeded what we expected. Across the buffet restaurants and the à la carte selection, we ate well every single day. The variety is rare for a single resort, and the quality is high across the different cuisines. We particularly enjoyed Reef for the grilled fish and Inguru for the Sri Lankan dishes.
The spa, the water sports and the relaxed pace of the island rounded the stay. The level of service from the staff was attentive without being intrusive, and small details (a chilled towel after a dive, a fresh fruit plate in the room) added up to a stay that felt taken care of.
If you are looking for a resort in the Maldives that balances comfort, food, diving and the right amount of relaxation, Kuramathi Resort Maldives is one of the best options we have come across. A strong recommendation for couples, friends and families looking for a complete experience without compromises.
